frequently asked questions

The annual musical is governed by the Lake Harriet Players Theater Board. Our mission is “to honor our Creator with intergenerational opportunities for spiritual, personal and community growth through participation in theater productions.”

The current board is Dave Nyberg, Chair; Connie Lee, Vice-Chair. David Berger, Sue Ellen Berger, Annie Harness, Wendy Helgeson, Alan Husby, Karissa Ouren, Pat Ruppel, Marcia Sytsma, Thomas Webb Williams, Chris Kliesen Wehrman, and Umar Williams. Ex officio: Kathy Webb, LHUMC Director of Music Ministry and Tyler Christiansen, LHUMC Pastor.

Why a musical?

Lake Harriet United Methodist Church (LHUMC), located near 50th and France in Minneapolis, is a church filled with an appreciation for the arts—many of our members are musicians, writers, actors and artists. LHUMC is also dedicated to outreach in our neighborhood as well as the rest of the Twin Cities and worldwide. Our annual musical, while not necessarily a “religious” event, is a great opportunity to blend our love of all things creative with our call to reach out to the world.

Is the location disabled-accessible?

Everyone is welcome to attend musical. We have disabled-accessible restrooms and the environment should also be easily accessed by the disabled.

May I bring my children?

Of course! This is a family-friendly event. The show will be appropriate for all ages.

Do I have to be a member of Lake Harriet United Methodist Church (LHUMC) to attend?

Not at all! Everyone of all faiths or no faith, all church affiliations or no church affiliation are invited. This is a community-wide event. All are welcomed into the production from both sides of the footlights. Non-members perform, play in the band, support in technical capacities as well as enjoying the performances as part of the audience.

Will somebody try to “preach” to me or “convert” me while I’m there?

No one will pressure you in any way at LHUMC. Here, we love and respect the Lord and all God’s people. If you are interested in hearing more about LHUMC and our mission, let us know or check out lakeharrietumc.org.

Is there an entrance fee?

No. We take a free will donation so people can pay whatever is affordable and help us not only pay the considerable cost of the production and continue our internal arts ministry, but also support mission work outside the church. In the past our money has gone as far from home as a Women's Clinic in Sierra Leone, and as close as the Harriet Tubman Shelter in the Twin Cities.

Where is the show located?

The performances will take place at Lake Harriet United Methodist Church (LHUMC), located at 4901 Chowen Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55410, near 50th and France.
